About Me

My name is Brittany and I'm 22 years old. I recently graduated from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte with a Bachelor's Degree in French.

I was born in New Jersey but only lived there until I was eight years old, so I was really raised in North Carolina. I have neither a Northern nor a Southern accent, though a few people will say that I have a weird mix of both.

I have been accepted to be an assistant de langue in France for 2015-2016 through a program called TAPIF [Teaching Assistant Program in France]. I'll be living in France from mid-September until next May while working as a teacher assistant teaching English to middle/high schoolers.

Random and interesting things to know about me:

My family is very close & very important to me

Not much explanation needed here. My family spends a lot of time together and I love it. They're my favorite people in the whole world.

I hate when people get my hair color wrong & then try to argue with me about it.

Many people will try to tell me that my hair is 'blonde' or 'dirty-blonde,' but I am a brunette. Yes, sometimes my hair has blonde streaks in it from being out in the sun during the summer. BUT my hair is mostly, if not totally, brown! Also it's my hair, I think I would know.

I have a completely irrational fear of choking.

I'm afraid of choking on food or hard candy or medicine or anything. I'm also afraid of anyone around me choking and I find myself thinking about how I plan to perform the Heimlich on myself or others in any given situation. This is one of the reasons that I am a super slow eater. I'm always the last one at the table left eating.

I love music!

It's been a family tradition to join band in school. I played the clarinet in a concert band from the sixth grade all the way through grade school and even joined the UNCC Symphonic Band for a semester during my Freshman year. In high school my Aunt Evie passed her saxophone down to me and I've absolutely loved playing it on the side.

Since I know how to read music, I've always tinkered around on the piano but I don't practice it as much as I should. I actually had a piano recital once from a class I took in high school, so that was probably the peak of my playing. I've also played the guitar since the sixth grade and it's probably the instrument that I love the most. I like being able to strum a few chords and sing along to my favorite songs. In my last two years of college I joined a Christian fellowship on campus called InterVarsity and played on the worship team. I'll post about that someday.

I'm a follower of Christ.

Though this is last on my list, God comes first in my life. After walking away from God out of fear and anger for quite a few years of my life, I let Him back in (Sept 2013)! Since then I have learned more about Him and myself than I ever have before. I had so many misconceptions before that were keeping me from having the relationship with Him that I do today!

I believe that having a relationship with God is so crucial. Whenever God teaches me something new, I journal in order to process and remember everything. A lot of my posts will be about my faith and my walk with God!
